That's good... a record with them should get you past the "online cert" problem. But, you really need that to move on to other employers.

Yes, they're not bad. I did a temporary 6 months stint with them years ago in Saudi Arabia. The job was okay, Saudi was not. |

That must have been many years ago. I don't recall them having a presence in Saudi. What year was that?
I just passed through their website and notice that they have opened a branch in Erbil.

For prices on a CELTA, the general discussion board might be the place to start. They are not cheap, nor are they easy. Do a search on here and you should find lots of discussion. |
You can do a 1-month CELTA in Hanoi or HCMC (Saigon) Vietnam for about $2000 USD including accomodation. In Thailand it costs about $2500.
I have never taken CELTA and do not teach English directly |

It can also be done at the British Council in Cairo... which is good for those who want to get into the Middle East.

They have operated there for a long time - through corporate sponsors.
This site even had an ad for a job there not too long ago.

I presume they are operating more openly now. I was subcontracted by them. |

Probably the universities in Education City. They pay top dollar. Unfortunately language teachers don't get such hot salaries and the housing is not very good. But if you're a professor, you get great accommodation and benefits. The apartments out at Ed City are very small, more like grad student housing so take note.
The Aeronautical College is also a nice place to teach but they don't pay very well. |

Seems like it is still Ed City - now known, apparently as Sheikh Hamad University. They are opening still more new universities. I drove past the other day - Georgetown U has a great new building. They really put their dollar on the students. Great place! |

Where does CCQ fit on this list? I am dead curious to know as I am considering a job with this college. |

Since the QA admin showed their true colors with that Nepalese chem teacher Dorje Gurung, I'd put them at the bottom of the list of places to work. The way they bend over backwards for spoiled students and pander to parents sounds unhelpful.

If you can't deal with that then think twice about going to Qatar. I'm afraid that's pretty much the norm across all employers in the country, be they kids' school, college or corporate. Spoiled students/employees are pandered to in a most shameless fashion, usually at the expense of the foreign teacher (as evidenced by the Nepalese teacher case). |

I'd say that this is true - to various extents - in all of the educational institutions in the Gulf. It is a fact of life that one must deal with... or move on to somewhere else in the wide world.
