I regret having not gone to Asia when younger and enjoyed myself more! The world is slowly moving east and I'm returning in ausgist to work again in Malaysia. I probably won't return. The west is almost bankrupt!

I regret not spending more time in Korea. I really enjoyed it there, but then I moved on to another country. I should have stayed for a little longer. My fear was if I did then I would end up staying there and not go anywhere else to teach.

The good thing about all my regrets is that I have done or are doing something to make things better.

Seven years in private eikaiwa schools-switched to junior high and love it!
Procrastinated on grad school-started a degree program last year.
First time in Japan I didn't travel in Asia-now I go overseas about twice a year.

Now I am on a better path and much happier and productive. Yay me!

Yes, yay you! Exclamation

I like to see people making positive changes in their lives. It is encouraging to me also. Around 7 months ago, I too got more pro-active in creating a better set of circumstances for myself and it has re-energised me in several ways. It is so easy to become complacent in our get-up, go-to-work, go-home, go-to-bed routine. It takes energy to go outside the general routine.

Funny thing is that as I made good decisions, I met other people who were doing the same. Starting businesses (mainly English schools), doing martial arts, studying Japanese, etc. Generally a better class of people. Truly a positive feedback loop.

And it takes so little energy to do so. Think of it in terms of exercise: it takes a lot to start jogging or weight training. Yet, once you start a pattern of exercise, it becomes easier to add 5 minutes to your run or 2kg to the bar.

Likewise with my new patterns, it is just matter of small increments. I am doing my master's a course or two a semester (which may take me 2-3 years, but that's fine) and all the money and energy I spent as a single man I can put towards visiting new countries.

Very true! I also think it takes courage to break out and do something better and different. I worked at a school once that was really time-consuming and stressful. A lot of people were putting on weight, some were having health problems, and despite their complaints they still work there because it's a "cushy" job. I moved on to something better that gave me my life after work back and had the renewed energy to take up my hobbies again and travel more.

Life is too short to not make the beneficial needed changes.

As the saying goes, "misery loves company," I think it's true of happiness. Happiness begets happiness. Being around happy, productive, active people who have a range of interests will affect others for the better. Very Happy
