I actually thought 29 was a much harder birthday than 30.
when you're 29 you get this ridiculous feeling that you have to "do things", since, as Denise said, it's your last year in your 20s and all that jazz- not that that means anything.
Then when you hit 30 you think "Oh big deal - that's all there is to it?"
And john, as for "70 being the new 30" why not? Youre' as old as you feel. A cliche, but absolutely true. |

I moved to Japan 3 months before my 30th. It came and went with a big party and I was ok. I was 30. Took me about 3 months to admit it, as I was still writing that I was 29 on my train ticket....force of habit...
When I turned 31, I lost the plot. I was now officially *in my 30s* and that bugged me. Lets just say it was NOT a nice night.
My 33rd birthday is in November and I am ok with it now. I remember thinking that this time in my life would never come. Gawd, 30 sounded SO OLD when I was a teenager...now I feel like it is just the start of my life.
Age, birthdays...they are all just numbers. What is important is HOW you feel about yourself and screw how old you are. I had someone laugh in my face when I told them I was 32. She didn't believe me, said I looked in my mid to late twenties. That was nice.... |

I have been told by my Chinese teachers that every 12 years is significant here - they were telling me that to let me know that 60 was an important Birthday. I have just turned 57 and do not know if I will make it to 60 anywhere - let alone in China!
I do not know why but 12, 24, 36, 48 & 60 are milestones, but they did not mention 30. |

Dear Rhonda Place,
Well, let's see - what happened in my 60th year?
1. I left Saudi Arabia for - inshallah - the last time and returned to the States for good (inshallah again).
2. I got engaged.
I guess those could be called "significant". So, hang in there. It ain't over till it's over - or until the fat lady sings, whichever comes first.
Regards,
John |

Rhonda Place,
Every 12 years it's your "Chinese animal birthday" or however you say it. For example, I am born in 1978, year of the horse, so it was also the year of the horse in 1990 (when I was 12), 2002 (when I was 24) and will be again in 2014 (when I'll be 36), 2026 (when I'll be 4 and 2038 (when I'll be 60) - I think the 12 years thing has some kind of significance, I forget what! |

JOHNSLAT
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT!
REMINDS ME OF A JOKE (BUT THEN AGAIN MOST THINGS REMIND ME OF A JOKE).
THIS GUY SAID - "I DON'T THINK I WILL GET MARRIED AGAIN - I WILL JUST FIND A WOMAN I DON'T LIKE AND GIVE HER A HOUSE"
MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD.
SERIOUSLY THOUGH, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST |

Dear Rhonda,
Thanks very much. This'll be nuptial #3 for me, but they say that third time's lucky. My first wife was far too crazy (and I do mean literally), my second far too sane. I think this time I've got the right mixture.

John |

JOHN,
HOW DO I CHANGE WHAT IT SAYS ON THE BOTTOM OF MY POSTS.
IT SAYS I AM A 56 YEAR OLD AUSTRALIAN AND I AM NOW 57 - I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT CHANGING IT!
I DON'T WANT IT TO GO ON SAYING 56 FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS! - MISREPRESENTATION! |

Dear Rhonda Place,
When in doubt, the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions - see the top of any page) is usually a good source to try. Your question is about the "signature" at the bottom of all your postings. Here's what the FAQ page has to say about that:
"How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form."
So, I'd suggest you click on your Profile button (also at the top of the page) and, when you get to your profile, you can alter your "signature" whenever another year rolls by. The "signature box" is under "Profile Information" on that "Profile page".
Hope this helps.
Regards,
John |
