I'm still researching cities. I must say, I'm surprised to see how cheap the rent is in many of these places. Ho Chi Minh City - by comparison - is definitely no longer the bargain it once was. |

Yes, there is a large disconnect between house prices and house rentals for the most part (there are exceptions, of course). House prices keep rising
and are beyond the reach of many people. Thus, banks have started coming out with things like generational loans: 50-60 year mortgages that are co-signed by father and son...something like that.
The bookstores have many titles regarding Get Rich With Real Estate (one particular Malaysian Chinese woman is at the top of the publication list). Thus, many Malaysians sink their savings into buying property as investments, and have to rent them out for income to cover their mortgage payments. And so, rentals are low because of the glut of rental housing available.
