by the way, Qatar is as expensive as UAE, if not more so...Rents have skyrocketed....shopping for clothing, etc..is expensive (if you want quality), and basic groceries have gone up in price....u can make more money in Kuwait, etc...If you're working with a generous company, you won't have to worry bout rents, electric, etc. But do make sure to read your contract b4 going out. |

Ok, so the cost of life is going up in Qatar (I won't ask where it isn't).
Now - the real question - is Qatar worth the time and effort?
The UAE certainly is NOT......

Most people in qatar don't make the effort, waste their time but do leave the country with a healthy salary |

I must say that working in the gulf was worth my effort. I had lovely students, a safe environment, wonderful winter weather, long holidays with a free ticket, and saved enough to retire at 53!!

Thank you for your comments - you are both right.
What I would like to correct, is my own question: what I should have asked is whether insitutions in Qatar pay for work done - an issue in several institutions in the UAE.
Other than that, yes, I agree entirely - too often people are not bothered in making an effort in the place they are living in nor willing to make an effort at the workplace. Then it is everyone else who has to grin and bear disgruntled colleagues.
Nothing too new there unfortunately.
But for those out there who DO make an effort to enjoy life and where ever they may be, and still enjoy teaching as well, the best of new academic years to all!
And VS - hey! how cool hope you enjoy your time!

My company paid the same salary. It didn't matter if you had taught 25 hours in a week or 0 hours. The important thing was to be on site for 40 hours a week. |
