FYI Nope. I worked with Wilbur at the Gulag but have moved on. Wilbur has retired as his new wife takes up a lot of time and is very "Wilbur-oriented', he ain't got much time for out of house activities. He's moved further south in the Gulf.

Absolutely right on. Wilbur wants to keep this wife and with his new university job he may be able to since he's making better money and has a nice apartment. The last time I heard from Wilbur, just after he landed, he was very happy. The new wife is good for him, keeps him busy and listens to him. She's determined to take first place so no more blogs etc for him. The last I heard they're waiting for a baby next July.

Wilbur's not the only one who's moved on. I've returned to pack up and say good-bye to the Gulf. I wanted to spend National Day here before I move on. The parade this morning was great. I've lived in Qatar for almost 14 years so seen a lot in my time. The country is getting much better but it's time to try new horizons. Next stop, Shanghai with a big American corporation who wants to train their Chinese employees to speak good business English. This is a big career move financially. I also get to continue consulting work. I'm going home for Christmas and then moving to the Far East.

Yes VS I did have marital problems too but they are resolved. I suppose you resolved yours by checking out. The best way when things do downhill.

Wish me luck in the Orient. I do not plan to eat grasshoppers, snakes or innards but I am game to try some of the other more exotic fare. I've been a big fan of the Chinese restaurants in Doha. From none (except Indian-Chinese) a decade ago, there are are least a dozen places. Beijing is still the best Chinese place in town with genuine Chinese, not Nepali, cooks.

So goodbye Doha and hello Shanghai.

Do you mean Ric's Country Kitchen, the place where all homesick Americans and base people go for grits and flapjacks? No gambling there that I know of. In the old days, before all the bars, people used to play card games. That's the extend of the gambling. But maybe you know more than I do.

Goodness... you are even younger than I thought. Or are you just the last person in the world that hasn't watched Casablanca? If you haven't, you really should. Laughing

Why am I not surprised... I sent my husband back to his mother in 1972. Stayed friends with her until her death in the 90s. This was long before I ventured to the Middle East in 1985.

Good luck on your new ventures.

Thanks for the good luck. I will need it as I don't speak Chinese. I have been told it's a very hard language to learn but I'll try my best. It won't be like the Gulf where you can get by so easily without learning a word of Arabic.

I saw Casablanca once. It was pretty dull. I suppose for its time, it was something special. I am not a big fan of Humphrey Bogart.

I apologize to all for forgetting lollaerd in my topic title. I've gone back to the old standby "Mark All Topic Read" standard on the Qatar board again.

There are hard decisions out there for everyone to make. Amongst those are: Getting a life vs. keep...

Thanks lollaerd...
