| Disney is doing this big expansion right now. trying to open schools all over China. |
Disney will be an even bigger hit here in the next few years as they signed a contract last week to finally commence building the 'Disneyland Shanghai' themepark.
Should be lots more job openings soon for folk who want to walk around shaking hands with people whilst wearing lifesize 'Micky Mouse' and 'Pluto' outfits. |

where's the game? other than wasting the recruiter's precious
time?
the first contact answers the op's question.
the hiring manager answers the op's question.
she even notes that the question was answered in the FAQ's.
(hint: do your homework before applying.)
poor woman! bet she'd give her right mouse ear to find a
non-reading/listening-challenged applicant! |

| This complaint seems really petty, and not worth a warning- bureaucracy and a bit of rudeness are nothing unusual. Showing an understanding of major points of employment beforehand (like whether they'll pay for your visa) is just a generally good idea anyway. |

And if you want to be really exotic and attract the locals, you could walk around without the costume. |

| What is the new ad description about lifting 40 to 50 pounds? My understanding is we are to teach and there would be assistants to help with various child care issues (diapers and such). I have never seen a job description for teachers overseas being able to lift 40 to 50 pounds. |

| I was wondering about that myself. I've also noticed a LOT of job alerts from this place in the last couple of days. The bread looks pretty good. |

I worked for Disney and have found that they are pretty much like the rest of the crappy teaching centers in Asia.
Nothing is clear or guaranteed in the contract. For example, they promise 21 days in a hotel when you first arrive as one of the "benefits", then you discover that you were actually paying for the hotel out of your housing allowance without your knowledge (I've talked to at least 5 teachers who were really angry about this and feel they were misled by recruiters).
They don't allow sick days unless you bring a note from a doctor. I know seeing a doctor is always what I want to do when I'm too sick with flu to come to work.
Plus, the "cast members" are either enticed by the pay or creepy aged cheerleaders who actually believe in all the peppy Disney hurray hurray corporate propaganda.
My advice is not to assume that because Disney is an international brand they are any different from any other language school. In fact they can be worse, like a combination of working at a second rate day care and McDonald's all at once.
You should treat any job offer with them with the same scrutiny you would reserve for any no-name independent school. |

Is this for real? I noticed a recruiter is listing open positions for them. Does that make the recruiter a sneak? |

I was contacted by a recruiter, Adrien King, and he gave me an interview while I was back in the States. He set up a second interview with a woman at the company named "CJ." By the time CJ was ready to give me an interview, I was back in China and so we had an interview of about 1/2 an hour.
I am not sure what I said during the second interview, but I got a call from the first recruiter (that would be Adrien King) about 10 minutes after the interview with CJ finished and he said that the application was not successful.
When I asked the woman CJ why (we talked by Skype), she wouldn't give me any answer-- as in, she wouldn't respond to me.
The only thing that I told them was that since I am a tall black person, it would be better that they didn't use me for demo classes (since Chinese parents have already made up their mind about a black teacher before they even hear one single word). But other than that, the interview lasted for an hour. I can't imagine what was the point keeping me on the phone for that long if they knew that they weren't going to hire me straight out of the gate. It could be like any of the many other interviewers that I've worked with over the years. They know very well that there is no job for them, but they keep a person on the phone/ waiting because they need to look busy in the office.
The other thing I noticed is that their salary package is way above the norm for this industry. Like, by a factor of two. So, I can guess that they had a lot more people to interview than what they needed. I can also surmise that they don't know what they are doing in the China market (like so many other idiot foreign companies that come here and think they are going to sell one sock to a billion people). |
