EFL Poland is over-don't do it. You will earn 700 Euros a month in the most expensive region on earth. Take seeds, so you can grow your own food.
3,000 Zl is average for a newbie to the country. Here are some average prices...I was there 4 weeks ago and have been and lived there regularly since 95.
Rent-Studio 1,000/month.
Bills-250/month
Transport 100/month
A meal in a restaurant-30-50
Abottle of wine in a restaurant 60-100
Cigarettes-11
My winter jacket 1000 (puffa)
A pair of Levis 300
A pair of trainers 300
A whole roast chicken from a street vendor 18
A JD and coke 20
Dating? Double it. |
IMO, these prices are a bit on the high side, aside from rent. 1000zl for a winter jacket? I paid 280 for one just last winter. Trainers can be had for less than 200zl.
Rent, however, would tend to be 200-300zl higher in Warsaw - for a studio. There really is no getting around it, aside from getting a room mate.
The solution? Earn more than 3000zl a month! This isn't hard to do, at least in Warsaw.
1 zl for 1 min. of teaching net (i.e. after taxes) is really the minimum qualified teachers accept here.
A modest teaching load of 24 hours a week would see you making 5760zl net a month.
A liveable wage, IMO. |

One other thing to consider. If you have a choice of a grimy looking flat in a high rise block or a nice looking converted house, go for the block. We had teachers living in a very spacious (and badly insulated) flat which was the top floor in a house and their gas bill was almost as high as their wages in the winter.
I live in a house and I pay 200zl a month for electricity, 150zl (summer) - 800zl (winter) for gas, 66 for rubbish, 100zl for water. Mind you, Mrs Bilko does like it warm in here and the washing machine's on the go 24/7 with two young kids. |

So youre the *beep* that actually goes around and buys Levis for 300 zets Sharter, the lifestyle you evidently lead when in Poland wont get you far anywhere... 1000zl for a jacket? Are you f'ing mad? I paid 700 for a god damn Arcteryx, the best of the best, and sneakers, just wait for a god damn sale, and I wont even mention allegro where all that sht is for 50% less. I know 2 stores in Wro that have got Levis for 175, but then Im a patient ass and just wait for my annual trip the US and pick up a few for $25 a pop in Macys. |

His prices are pretty accurate aside from the winter coat thing, but you'd actually have to pay closer to 1,500zl - 2,000 zl per month to rent a "nice" flat in one of the bigger cities.
Also,if you're operating a car over there, you'll easily be spending 500 zl a month for fuel, insurance, repairs and all the other things that having a car entails.Fuel is very expensive in Poland.
Brand name quality trainers are 200-300zl on a good day even with the sales.Forget brand name clothing. You'll be doing most of your clothes shopping at the outdoor markets and the quality there is questionable at best.
You can possibly rent a flat for 700 or 800 zl monthly,if you don't mind living in a shady district well outside the centre of town with no security, archaic smelly lifts, ancient drafty windows and drunks laying around outside your door and dog feces in the corridors.Been there and done that.
Ahhh life in Poland! |
