They suck! Don't do it! They bombard you with emails and if you get a job elsewhere they won't stop asking you about it. |

I agree with the general rule of not working with recruiters. I learned this the hard way though my 2 years of teaching in Taiwan.
But...
Julie at ACI really did try and help me when I had a problem with the school I was placed at. In fact, she found me some "extra" work while she looked for a better position. I found her to be fair and honest. She never asked for any money. I would suggest to keep an open mind. I would advise new teachers to use recruiters if you want to enter the ESL game for the first time. After your first job, you will have the wisdom and experience to get the next job on your own. Julie was raised in the states (Texas, I believe), so she has very good insights on both sides of the cultural fence. You could do much worse with some of the others recruiters. Julie is cool. |

I'd also like to reply on behalf of Julie. My name is Jack. I arrived in Taiwan two years ago with little to no idea of what to expect in terms of the job market here. I didn't know who was reputable or what was good or bad. a friend of mine suggested I try Asian Consultants and gave me Julie's number and email address. I found their fees to be fair and the service to be useful. I had a job within two weeks or less from the date I contacted them. I have been with that same company since April 2009. I find this thread to be little more than mild character assassination and wanted to provide a little bit of balance. How many dipshit foreign "teachers" come to taiwan and expect life to be handed to them? This thread seems to be more of the same. |

This must be Julie posting again to make her agency look good. |

1. Yes, I paid a fee, which in my opinion was well worth it. You pay an agent to do the physical work you don't want to do. I was studying chinese at wenhuadaxue at the time and didn't have much chance to do the necessary footwork to find a job. Thus, I contracted with an agent to do it for me. Makes sense.
2. I can assure you this is not Julie. You'll have to decide - I might be a piece of PLA Artificial Intelligence, a fat german man pretending to be a 15 year old Thai girl, or an american named Jack. |

You know recruiters just look at the job postings on the Internet, right? Something you could have done with minimal effort. |

NEVER EVER pay a recruiter. Not up front, not through percentages of wages. Any recruiter that demands payment from you is a crook. They are playing your for a sap. They are already getting a fee from the buxiban and now they want another one from you.

For all the things we do, yes, there is a fee. You may ask, Why dont you just charge the schools? The truth is, we believe both the schools and the teachers are our clients. |
How convenient.

From what I remember, they only charge you if you get the job in Taipei, if not, they charge the school....
Don't expect ACI to back you if your having trouble with your boss. In my case, they basically put me down and said everything was my fault. Julie told me no one ever had any problems at that school, even if in fact that wasn't true. I won't get into it, but I've never felt so let down by someone who "pretended" to care just to fill a position at a shitty school.
Luckily, my new school is great and I've been here for a few years. |
Hi Benben, I have some questions I'd like to ask you.
1) Can I ask you why your new school in Taiwan is so great?
2) What is the name of the school you work at?
3) Can you advise me how to apply for a TEFL position there?
Best regards, Andy. |

Look here

Asian Consultants seem to be getting some awesome reviews here from people. Sounds very good until you see "Reviewed by [email protected]" They have gone and reviewed themselves!!
Seriously guys why do you do this?? This isn't clever and just makes you look unprofessional and bad, this should be a warning sign. If they were any good they wouldn't need to resort to this sort of manipulation. |
