| Government institutions in KSA typically count years of experience after your highest degree. So, if you taught for 20 years before your MA, and then for 1 after the MA, only that one year will count for increments. |

I left Al Yam before the SIT 'fellowship' started, so the following is all second-hand info. However, it comes from reliable sources who were working in Al Yam at the time, so it seems pretty solid to me.
Most teachers - male and female - at Al Yam had a fairly poor opinion of most (not all) the SIT trainees. Many of them had absolutely no clue how to deal with students or how to do basic lesson preparation. At least 2 or 3 of the trainees got in trouble with the law, and I believe one was deported though I can't confirm that.
From the trainees' point of view, supposedly they were unhappy with the lack of guidance they received when in Al Yamamah. Many of them had little or no teaching experience and felt they were thrown in at the deep end, expected to instantly teach in a program which notoriously has no curriculum and no textbooks. There were no advisors or representatives from SIT in Riyadh, so they were very much on their own. There were also rumblings that SIT themselves were unhappy about how their trainees were being treated by Al Yam/Interlink.
However, it may be that some or all of these problems have been patched up, since the fellowship program still seems to be in existence, despite earlier rumours that it might be cancelled because of the mutual discontent mentioned above. |

Dear scot47,
Welcome to the cosmic oneness, brethren and sistren:
"Alone on the streets tonight
Driving with a dropdown
Running all the red lights
Waiting for the meltdown
Got a naked-lady lighter
And a hashpipe on the dash
Pocket full of spare change
Tryin to make it last
And Im flying like an angel through these dead-end streets
Until the morning breaks, and makes another promise it cant keep.
So until I check out, and lay me down to sleep
I wont sacrifice my good times, for their fake securities
Cus I turn on the TV
Its the same old thing
A bunch of crap that dont mean much to me
Check the headlines, man, Its just a drag
War and destruction
This whole worlds gone mad.
But, down at the pub
Its just peace and love
All that stupid crap dont mean a thing
And you wonder why I drink.
You wonder why I drink."
Groovy - are you hip? Right on! Power to the People!
Far Out,
John |
