I think the money is withdrawn from an ATM in which his mom deposits into an American bank account or uses the money.
It is what I am doing. I work in the Netherlands but my home account is in the US. I have a Capital One online banking account and the money is direct deposited into the account (Euros). The Capital One account comes with an ATM card (not debit, not endorsed by Visa/Mastercard) which I sent to my parents and they withdraw cash (USD) from a Capital One ATM and deposit it into my credit union account or pay my bills with it. |

That is correct. My mom withdraws xx amount using the international debit card, and then deposits that into my American account.
If they can deposit directly into the account that you will pay bills from (like Tuan) than that is even easier. |

Oh ok, I get it. That is something to think about. The only thing that I don't like is that I'm a very independent type personality and, although my mother would be more than happy to do that for me, I don't want to bother her with having to do it every month if there is another way.
It's on the table of consideration though and I didn't know about that before so Thanks a lot guys!! |

Another method you might want to look into although I have not tried this method but it works for a friend of mine.
He has a Japan Paypal account and he was able to link both his Japanese bank account and his US bank account to his Paypal account. He is then able to transfer money from one account to the other using Paypal. It has to be a Japan Paypal account and not a US one as you can't link a Japanese bank account with a US Paypal account. He says the transfer fee and exchange rate is reasonable but I don't know what 'reasonable' is. Like always, research it first. |

Oh wow! Thanks! So he linked his Japanese Paypal to his US account as well? I'll definitely look into both methods and see which is better! The paypal method seems to be the most straight forward being that I can do it from my computer, but the other may be cheaper. |

Just make sure you don't have a Japan Post Bank account. You can't attach that to a Paypal account for some reason, unless they've changed it. |

Japan Post account is the account at the Post Office? When I was studying as a student, I opened a Hyaku Go bank account. Not sure if I closed it when I left. Is that a Post Bank? It could be because I only got a cash card from them, not a debit card or anything like that. |

Like I said, I'm not sure at how to go about it because I didn't use that method. He did not have a US Paypal account just a Japan one.
I thought Hyakugo was an independent bank with actual branches so it isn't a post bank. Again sorry if I'm confusing you |
