@hlamb, was your overstay before or since last year�s visa system reform?
This would be important to know, because it appears that the new system incorporates computer records to keep track of people coming and going, in contrast to the previous system that didn�t have the ability to cross-check records (as it depended basically on countless little bits of paper). |

It was before. I had heard rumours of some kind of computerized system before I left, but it wasn't in evidence then. In any case, I wouldn't recommend overstaying. The potential is always there for problems. One of my friends overstayed by 24 hours a few months before I left, and she was fined 500 pesos, and was told that they could have fined her more. |
