I think you're confusing entering on a tourist visa and on a rentista (which admittedly isn't the case for the OP, but we're on the subject) for which a wholly different set of rules apply.

Uh no, I am definitely not confusing anything. A person can no longer obtain an FM3 Rentista outside Mexico. Everyone enters, every time they travel, on the new FMM. End of my trying to explain this. I keep up. You'll just have to trust me.

FYI, here is what the new form FMM looks like. Everyone fills it out, no matter what status they hold. It's the new entry document. Incidentally, there are some countries that need prearranged tourist visas, so that could be confusing in the interpretation.

Welcome to Mexico Fitzgerald!

As you can see the most important lesson for life in Mexico is that you need to accept that there are often multiple truths.

In terms of sending stuff, either by post or currior, in my exprience the amount you have to pay in duty is hit or miss--whim of the customes official who looked in your box that day. The biggest problem is if you have clothes, shoes, or other things that clearly say "Made in China" on them. Or CDs/DVDs that look to be pirated (writting Family Photos on all non-original discs may help.) On boxes of books write Educational Materials. And on clothes lable used-donated goods. Then cross your fingers and hope for the best!
