I agree with Gambate, but bear in mind that what he seems to be calling an ALT position is different that what I do.

You need the foreign license and experience to work in an international school. You don't need any foreign license to work as what I call a FT position in a Japanese private school.

The school I worked at wanted to direct hire me but the BOE said no. The BOE wanted the luxury of having a different dispatch company there every year so they don't have to fire anyone themselves. It didn't matter if direct hire was cheaper.

As long as the BOEs are going to be happy throwing away millions of taxpayers' yen so that they don't have to deal with foreigners, there will always be a dispatch company to rip us off.

I can't see things ever getting better, to be honest.
