If Strategem No. 36 doesn't work try this:
Strategem No. 37 of Lao Tzu: When facing opponent kick in balls.
Maybe it's No.38, I forgot. |

It was Sun Tzu, actually:
| Quote: |
42. When invading hostile territory, the general
principle is, that penetrating deeply brings cohesion;
penetrating but a short way means dispersion. |
But I think we all need to remember:
.
| Quote: |
12. We cannot enter into alliances until we are
acquainted with the designs of our neighbors.
13. We are not fit to lead an army on the march
unless we are familiar with the face of the country--its
mountains and forests, its pitfalls and precipices,
its marshes and swamps.
14. We shall be unable to turn natural advantage
to account unless we make use of local guides.
15. In war, practice dissimulation, and you will succeed.
16. Whether to concentrate or to divide your troops,
must be decided by circumstances.
17. Let your rapidity be that of the wind,
your compactness that of the forest. |

|

| I did it in Thailand. My boss was playing games with my pay and after spending a month on next to no money and not being able to buy baby milk for my son, I collected my end of the month pay and did a midnight run. I did it then and if I was in the same situation today, I would do it again in a heartbeat. In the end, the students, your co-workers, and most of all your bosss doesn't care if you have enough to eat, don't care if you have a starving kid, and don't care if things suck for you. I am all for professionalism as long as it doesn't cost my son a meal. |

|

Every new job comes with start up costs not paid by my new employer. It's the same in China. My contract says my school will provide me with a soft bed, I got a box springs. I complained, and was given a thin foam matress cover. My contract says I will have dishes and cooking utinsils provided. I had one cup, one bowl, one plate, ect. I am one person, why would I want more dishes?
I have a choice. Do I fight the school, or do I just buy the things I need and enjoy my stay here? If I took a job in Chicago, I would need new cloths, new kitchen things, and I wouldn't bother my new Employer with details, so why would I in China? |

My previous school had the ultimate in a midnight run. Or was it a midnight run?
He was to teach freshman, so he didn't actually teach before the Oct 1st holiday. He got his Sep pay. He was the only one of us who got his airfare. He taught on week in October, got his pay, and then left.
The other side of the story, he told them before the vacation what he expected (such as; for the school to give him a valid visa, which the school screwed up, but refuse to do anything about; such as he would not teach the night non-academic course to outside students the school wanted him to teach, etc.
So he told the FAO plainly, if these and other problems are not fixed, I am leaving.
I was in the office with the English Dean when he told the Dean, "I am through begging. If the FAO doesn't take care of these problems , or start working on them, by the end of the week I am gone." The FAO wouldn't even talk to him, end at the end of the week I walked with him to the school gate as he left for greener pastures. Two months pay, one week of work, and more power to him. |
