Another basic necessity would be insurance, which should fit comfortably in the 50% figure.

Japan may be a nice fit.

1. Get some documentable ESL teaching experience in the States, if possible.

I am applying for evening positions at Jr. Colleges in the area, but I may have to settle for volunteer teaching Adult Ed classes. How well will that work in my favour.

2. Take some Japanese language classes.

Starting Japanese in the Fall. And thanks for the guidance, all.

I wanted to give an update.

As I have to wait at least three years before I can go abroad (as previously stated) I've been looking around for:

1. Direction - which country to go for first.

2. A way to gain some experience in this really tight job market.

Well, working backwards:

My uni just offered me a part time gig teaching ESL in the evening (two days a week, even!).

Due to the scheduling of those evening classes, I really only have one option for language study - Japanese at the local junior college. It just happens to dovetail nicely with my teaching schedule - so it all works out quite nicely! Very excited about all this.

Now to work on getting published. Very Happy

Thank you all for you advice and support.

Thank you for updating us. Many posters leave us wondering... what ever happened to so and so? Hope to hear more as you get closer to your goal of being cancer free and heading out on your overseas adventures.

Sure thing. Never hurts to say please or thank you or have some follow through. Though with the countdown for my health being what it is (three years) I don't want to inundate you all with monthly updates. Smile
