Agreed. Places I go the price of beer is around 200 a glass. Some cheaper, some a bit more expensive, but I've never paid 300. There's also some nice places that have decent house beer for under 100r, and they're in the centre. No smoke saunas either.

15000 is really excessive for going out. I'd say most people spend 3000-5000 on a night out, if you're into clubbing. You can spend a lot more, of course, but it's not really necessary. 'Taxis' here are dirt cheap. Hail any car, negotiate a price, and you're on your way.

Open-air markets also sell food a bit cheaper than at supermarkets, at least if you're looking for fresh fruits, meat and vegetables. They're usually higher quality as well.

Still, Moscow's expensive, and you need to be prepared for that.

15,000 could easily be spent on bad-boy entertainment. More, even. But this is hardly a typical night out... Not even legal in most countries...

i ended up spending about 55000 on a night, when i was provided with champagne i didn't order. 2 hours of arguing with some strange man in a back room, and it boiled down to him letting me off the 30000 i didn't have in cash if there wasn't enough on my card. annoyingly, there was enough on my card. that was a long time ago and i am still crying.

Well now I know how much it is for clubbing. 200 Rubs a beer isn't bad. I'm not really into the club scene, I just mean going out after work have a meal with colleagues and a couple beers. How much does it cost for a meal at a typical restaurant. Is local food cheaper than say a North American restaurant.

Would you say that this page is fairly accurate?

That price list was old... my apologies. What is the best way to transfer money home (north america) with the fewest charges.

No more sent home than 1500 a month.

depends on how you want to send it.

western union style is very expensive.

bank transfers are 1-2% on the Russian side then fees on the receiving side.

i found that opening an account here in Moscow and then sending a card home so that the receiver can withdraw from a cashpoint. Best to choose a bank that has branches where the receiver is, so citibank for example if you're in N Am. They often have deals (eg no fees, or minimal fees) because they think you are a traveller. The exchange rates are not necessarily superb, but usually not a rip-off either.
