I would also look in Baja. There is great surfing in a small town called Todos Santos, and I heard a rumor that the schools pay pretty well for English teachers. Also, Cabo has decent surf.

I am so tired of listening to middle class gringo and chilangos sarcastically griping about the artificial beaches in DF as a waste of money. If you were 1/2 of your income poorer, you would appreciate any beach, whether or not artificial. such snobbery.

Rolling Eyes

He has a RIGHT to let his opinion be known here as much as you. If you don't like what he said feel free to ignore it. Unreal.

I guess if you thought that the money spent wasn't needed elsewhere, such as on public transportation, health care, infrastructure, or straight-up handouts a la AMLO to the elderly, then I guess wasting money on a novelty and/or ploy to keep tourism pesos from being spent at actual beaches in other states could be seen as good public policy.

I'll admit it's hard to put myself in someone else's shoes...someone earning 1/2 what I do...or hey, let's get real and say a tenth of what most of here do. Let's clamour for...artificial beaches!

Quality of life issue to be sure.

Last year Gabino Cu brought the ice-rink idea to Oaxaca. While I'm mostly inclinded to agree with those who think there are more important things to spend the money on, I also got to see the delight of those who had never in their lives seen such a thing outside of a TV screen. And now I say, No matter how often you fix the roads the potholes always come back, but you will never take those memories away from those kids--they got a taste of something different, and it awoke a hunger for more. It showed them that the impossible is not always so impossible, and with a little work, they can make dreams come true.

Follow your own advice. I have also have the right to voice my opinion, even when you don`t particularly care for it. I would hate to think you the hypocrite.

I have never met or heard of anyone in Villahermosa teaching English from the foreign pool. There is a city further down the coast, Ciudad de Carmen, that has a language school that occasionally advertises for a language instructor. I recall it paid rather well.
CDC is the gateway to the oil exploration so I imagine many of your students would be mechanical engineers. I do recall 6 years ago a Britisher who was hired sight unseen by educational recruiters subcontracted through PEMEX in that area. His board was provided free and the pay was reasonable. He was vacationing in Merida and told me he loved the job.

Ok, thanks. It was surprisingly easy finding work in Tabasco, actually. I chose where I wanted to go based on personal connections (Macuspana) and received several job offers within a week and a half of my arrival. I'm now in an administrative position at a nice prepa and am teaching English to the teachers on the weekends - the benefits of being the only gringo around jaja.

Rob01,

How long would I be able to live fairly comfortably on for, say, $3000USD while looking for a job in Queretaro?

Would you stay in a hotel or find an apartment by the week, assuming I could find one for the short term?

By fairly comfortably I mean an air-conditioned room of some sort, eating out every meal, and not being too frugal at bars, etc.

Why would you need an airconditioned room in Queretaro? The climate there is lovely.

Also why post about it on this thread? Queretaro is not a costal city.

my apologies MotherF.

I was simply replying to what someone, as others did as well, had written.

That is why.

With that said, would you like to add anything relevant to my question?
