One of my roommate's is quite tall (though he's fit). He says he can find clothes in uniqlo and the gap. Shoes, from what i've heard, are going to be your main problem. Of course this is assuming you're coming to a big city. It'll be a lot harder out in the countryside.

I've had a lot of problems with shoes here in Japan. I'm a female size 10 and it's almost impossible to buy without going to speciality shoes that charge the earth.

I ordered some work shoes from a UK site and had to pay hefty import duties because they were leather.

I have also bought shoes from Forever 21. They don't seem to have much larger stock in stores but you can get them through their website. The quality is pretty poor though. I think some of the stores like Zara have bigger sizes too.

I'm a big guy, 185cm and 95kg. But I can generally find clothes that fit me.

Off-work: Uniglo, sometimes Jusco/Aeon for socks, etc.

Work suits: Aoki's, Aoyama, Uniqlo has some decent Y-shirts.

I'm XL in everything.

Shoes canbe a headache. Sometimes I get lucky and find size 29 shoes but not often. I check Amazon/Rakuten or just wait until I go home and stock up.

Not everyone loses weight in Japan. My first year I lost 7kg and had to buy new clothes. Second time I came over I got married quickly and put on some weight.
