One of my former university students has graduated and is presently living and working in Foshan as an English teacher. She's a very nice girl and speaks excellent English. She'd love to have a foreign friend she can help out. Send an email to "[email protected]" and I'll send you her contact info.
BTW, the above poster who said 5500 a month is plenty if housing is provided is absolutely correct. Any job that pays "twice that" is either in a very expensive place or doesn't provide free housing. |

The title of this thread says it is all - "scared"
Anyone so scared simply shouldn't leave the comfort of their home sofa. |

Hi!
I think moving across the world is a big step and it's only natural to be scared! But also excited! I am also moving to China - I start mid July. I will be working in Zibo, Shandong, which is far from you, but if you want to PM me we can chat more about our experiences.
I will also be making the same amount of money as you - as is a friend of mine in Shandong who hasn't had any problems making ends meet.
Good luck with your working visa - I hope you receive the necessary papers soon.
I have learned fairly quickly there are a couple negative people on this board - don't let it get to you |

Given that 16/18 contact hours per week, often over 4 days and around 5K per month is the norm in the state uni/college area and the 9K jobs are 25 contact hours + admin, there is a proportionality there.
Depends on what you want.
But to simply say 'I don't know you're working for 5K when there are 9K jobs galore' is simplistic.
If your apartment is miles away you might as well stay at school.
At my last college where the accom was on campus, my gap between classes say between 10am and 2pm was totally mine to chill with the other FTs who weren't working, Skype home, sleep, or any number of other activities. |

Here's a link to travel/transport info for Foshan
http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/guangdong/foshan/
Like everyone else said, the pay is par for the course for a University. Not only will you probably work way less hours per week than at a private training school...but expect to have weeks and weeks of vacation time. If you don't have at least 4 weeks paid...there's a problem.
You're not going to get rich but a job like this will give you plenty of time to enjoy your China experience. Plus being a city like Foshan will inspire you to learn Chinese sooner |

Not always. Some provide a dorm room and free cafeteria grub during school days, and pay much more for up to 20 classes/week, though I don't suppose they are plentiful. |

I was a bit scared myself before I made the leap. When I was searching for employment and secured it I was quite excited. When it got down to crunch time I was scared a bit. It's human. No need to discourage the OP because of it. It's a pretty friggin huge leap to make.
Good luck to the OP!

Skype works for me...or did not long ago. You can also use MSN/Yahoo/QQInternational or Mumble (no video). Plenty more ways I am sure if you google it. |

| There is skype here. That is what I use. You can keep an account back home or get the unlimited world wide here, it is like 100 RMB a month for unlimited calls. |

You make Said come alive.
The scary bit for me is never living in China or another country, it's handing my notice in to my current job. |
