This is all pretty funny. I just brought a block of cheese AND high end kitchen supplies into Mexico. The guy did want to see my cheese, but that was it.
HOWEVER, I did loose my peanut butter to the TSA in the United States. They gave me a long sermon about how it is considered a liquid under federal law and cannot be brought on a plane to protect the safety of the United States from terrorists and Mexican drug trafficers. Multiple times, they suggested I miss my flight to mail the stuff to Mexico, not exactly the most logical thing. And you can't bribe those folks... |

WTH? Peanut butter is a liquid? That is really wierd. Why bring peanut butter anyway, you can make your own and the peanuts in Mexico are really good. Cashew butter and almond butter are really yummy too. Im about load up my latest kitchen toys, nothing too $$ this time. I even got a crepe maker, which I had previously not known existed, so of course I had to have one. |

Well, the fact that they could detain me and make me miss my flight was a pretty good incentive. I think it was a case of bored cop syndrome, if you know what I mean. |

Yep, had an incident similar to yours and just kept my trap shut, though I was itching to make a comment. But I do know when its better to just say Yes suh and shuffle on along. But sheesh. Peanut butter. I am tempted to get some of the organic kind thats made just from peanuts so I can point out that its just peanuts.......nah, better not. |

I never eat peanut butter, so I've never looked for it in my local supermarket. Isn't it readily available here? |

Most grocery stores in DF have one or two brands...Aladin is one. Costco and Price Club have Skippy. |

So, Guy, are you going to publish a book some day featuring all the photos you've been taking of your lovely daughter? |

I got kinda addicted last fall here in Mexico. A roommate and I went all the way to a Costco out by Tacubaya to find bigger sizes because it's so expensive and we were eating a jar a week. The trip took two hours each way, and when we went to check out, we discovered the membership we had was expired. I'd even dressed up like my friend whose membership we borrowed to convince the cashier!
Many Superamas also have Skippy, but it's expensive. Also vastly superior to Alladin. |

A couple of years ago, I got the same story as the peanut butter but it was mole paste. It made it out of Mexico City, but when rechecking in after going through customs in Houston it was taken away. The guy was Mexican American and I suspect he took it home for dinner. |
