Can be done. I did it with no problems back when I was in Saudi.. All Internet communication is traceable but you're hardly the only one dialing Israeli numbers on Skype. If you're really worried about someone tracking you down, use Facebook instead of Skype.
Facebook and Skype partnered very recently, after Microsoft bought Skype. One of Skype's touted advantages is its strong encryption. Its chat feature is "relatively" private.

You are probably correct. Just recently I came by this report on KSA giving Israel the right of way if it intends to attack Iran:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article7148555.ece

I also heard from several Iraqi and Omani Arab friends that while the Palestinian cause is a popular one in the Arab world, when it comes down to it, Palestinians as a cultural group among Arabs themselves are very low ranking, and not to be trusted.

Anyways, I appreciate the comments and feedback. Since I first posted, I have been offered two more job positions and consulted with my father about it (who is an Arab himself) and his answer was, "What are you CRAZY?"

Anyways, I guess I'm leaning more and more in the direction of taking a pass.....money is tempting, but so is keeping my sanity.

Good luck y'all!!

Very interesting article, Chemdah. It confirms what I heard in Kuwaut , i.e, that the Palestinians were a devious bunch and not to be trusted. Arafat immediately sided with Saddam when he walked into Kuwait in 1990. Theres gratitude for you!

I am actually an Arab myself, but a Christian one - raised in the USA and have many Jewish friends as well.

When I worked in KSA last year, one of my colleagues was a Christian Arab from an English-speaking country. He didn't seem to have any problems there and went about unmolested.

This depends on the Arabic country. Egyptians and Syrians hold Palestinians in good enough regard. It's a mixed bag in the gulf. Palestinians are respected for their intelligence, education, and hard work.

As far as Kuwait, you presented a very incomplete picture. Before 1990, it was common place for Kuwaiti thugs to harass Palestinians walking on the street and other Arabs, not just Palestinians, which did not endear the Kuwaitis to many Arabs, in general. That said, what Arafat did was disgusting. You speak of gratitude. There was little gratitude in Kuwait prior to 1990 for what Palestinians were contributing to Kuwait in terms of having helped build the country out of nothing. There are good and bad Palestinians and Kuwaitis. I did live in Kuwait, and I know before 1990 Kuwait and many Kuwaitis did give Palestinians a hard time. They would try to discourage the children of Palestinians from having residency. The Palestinians essentially built much of modern Kuwait. Some became Kuwaiti citizens, and that's how Kuwait has local Christians. They were Palestinian Christians who acquired the citizenship. Some Kuwaitis appreciated what the Palestinians contributed, others didn't care. It happens when you're wealthy. Kuwaitis sometimes would as jokes threaten as individuals to deport non-Kuwaitis including Palestinians. It's not a way to endear yourself to those living in the country to you.
Those Palestinians who sided with Saddam were traitors. I knew Palestinians who did not and just minded their own business. Also a Kuwaiti friend was in the resistance, and he said some Palestinians joined the resistance. I see good and bad. I also heard a Kuwaiti say he liked Palestinians and was sorry about how they left, and he liked them. All Arabs can improve in how they treat each other.

I recently talked to a Kuwaiti and told him I had lived there back in the day, and he said he liked Palestinians and what they did for Kuwait in the past, and he was sorry they went. There are Kuwaitis who do recognize that. So many Palestinians educated so many Kuwaitis and were good people. People can say negative things about Iraqis, Kuwaitis, Palestinians and others... I am sure of it.

As far as facebook and skype, I know in Kuwait people use it all the time. I don't know about Saudi Arabia. If I were going to Saudi Arabia, I would use facebook. I also have Jewish friends, but I don't call Israel on Skype. However, I am not sure if it's a big deal if one says one has relatives in 1948 Palestine or what people call Israel. It's a mixed bag with Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia recently allowed in a Jewish fellow who won some Saudi prize, and he had and so did his family Israeli stamps.

As far as are you crazy comment, plenty of Lebanese and Palestinians hesitate to go to Saudi Arabia because it's much more conservative than their respective countries. I have never lived in Saudi Arabia. I have lived in Kuwait. Kuwait is far more open than Saudi Arabia, and using Facebook or Skype is no big deal. I know many Saudis in North America use Skype. I don't about the legality of it. I don't know if Skype is legal in the UAE. A friend said she thought it was illegal. She is working there. A French guy I know has Skype in the UAE.

The Arab Spring does not apply to the gulf countries. It applies only to places like Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, and maybe Palestine to some extent, and those people are still trying to assert themselves in the face of regimes that are against that. They are taking huge risks to organize. The Gulf has not very much been affected by the spring except for Bahrain, and that was crushed quickly with the help of allies of the king.
The UAE has beefed up security and brought in some mercs, supposedly.

I would like to learn more about Saudi Arabia, too.
