Yes, it's what people do. It's also the best way to secure employment here. I felt the same way when I arrived as you do now, but once you're here you will see the wisdom of it. |

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Do you think I'm going to be able to pull this conquest off with about 1500 USD? I would rather not borrow from mom. |

$1,500 is a bit tight, but should be enough. If you get a job soon after you arrive it should definitely be enough. If it takes you a few weeks to a month to find a job..... well, you might need to borrow from mom.
I'd suggest trying to have some interviews lined up before you arrive. It's not as easy to find a job in Taipei as it used to be. If you're willing to go to the countryside, you'll find it much easier.
