Interested to see all the recent posts. Stay well clear of both Majali and Hawthorn. you can get much better jobs through the Higher Colleges of Technology and the universities. Majali is a crook and a creep. Rustaq is great for a day trip...no an afternoon trip. Sur is great for.....can't remember what, there was nothing to do. You can get a far better salary and far better conditions if....you work in Dubai and come over to Oman for a weekend. Don't get involved with either Hawthorn or ELS. You don't need to get a job where you end up paying for the resources yourself, especially when you know that the recruiter has a healthy salary and lifestyle and is cutting corners on your back. On the other hand, if you like doing it tough, then this is the job for you....Good luck!

Sur is extremely boring. I would dito what was said about there being the beach and a handful of Indian/Pakistani and Arab restaurants that are decent to really good with tons that are just crap.

There's a cinema that rarely has good movies in, most of them are from Keralawood (not Bollywood) and a few Western flicks. Unless you want to buy them in Muscat, you more or less have to download or live stream any movies or TV shows you want because none of the shops carry them, it's mostly Khaligi (Gulf) and Indian music.

The beaches are alright, but for most people save fishermen and sailors, a beach is an addendum onto anything vs. a main attraction. Also, both colleges in the city have an EXTREMELY high turnover rate.

I posted about my experience at SUC in the 2011-2012 year under the title "My Experience at Sur University College (SUC)"

If you want to know more about the place, that's pretty much everything you need to know to justify avoiding it.
