Dear JohnRambo,
I'm sorry to say that I have no idea about the procedure. That was all handled by my employer, the Institute of Public Administration (a government agency.) Upon arrival, I would hand over my passport, get a "temporary iqama" for about a week, and then receive my "real iqama."
It isn't something an individual worker can do on his/her own. It has to be done by one's legal employer/sponsor.
Regards,
John |

So you have no idea, John, if you had to authenticate your diploma and get an apostille or do a health check in the US or Saudi Arabia and get a state or federal background check? You had to do something on your end.
That's what I am asking. |

Dear JohnRambo,
Oh, in the States all I had to do was get the medical and a (local) police background check. I never had to authenticate my diploma and get an apostille, thank God.
The medical check's weren't as stringent back then. For my first one (back in '80) I was just about broke, so I went to give plasma and talked the doctor at the center into filling it all it (it probably didn't hurt that he reeked of whiskey and I slipped him $10.)
For another, I went to a public health clinic in Tampa, Florida and got it done for free.
Regards,
John |

That sounds funny, John, the part where he was reeking of whiskey. How recent does that background check have to be? I have one from West Virginia that I got back in June. I am in Texas right now. Does it make a difference? |

Dear JohnRambo,
As I mentioned on another posting, if the background check is dated (and I assume it is,) that could pose a problem. It's two months old and from a place you're not currently living, right? If someone connects the dots, it might create difficulties (or, given Saudi, it might not )
Regards,
John |
