| we just have different definitions of town. When you say town, perhaps you mean local neighborhood. When I say town, I mean geographic boundary. Bien Hoa is a town closing in on a million people. Obviously there are not hundreds of thousands of people who are actively gossiping about you, or even know you exist. But if you mean your little area, sure, you can be the talk of the town, substituting the term neighborhood for the true meaning of a town. In my generation, it meant the real town we were from. The New Yorker has a column with that name. It gossips about people that most everyone in NYC would have heard of. It is a good example of what my generation meant by "talk of the town", perhaps it is the definitive example. So, my point was (is), none of our guys have to worry that the whole city or town is going to be gossiping about him. Yes, his local neighborhood might, so he might take his corruptions across town if he wants to lay low. Anyway, whatever you are doing over there, sounds like at least your area finds it scandalous, so you must be having big fun. If the whole town (some 800,000 or so) knows of your exploits, you have my deepest respect. |
