I don't understand why it is a given that the ME has no available women. When I taught there (as a married man), my wife was perpetually insulted by women trying to cut into our relationship. This was surprising because, before going, we had heard a lot about family values and respect for married people, etc., but our experience showed us a very different side of things.
Luckily for me, I had a strong marriage and a good partner. And, luckily for me, being married, I did not have to visit the camel souks either. (It must take quite a washing to get the smell off. I guess that's what those Turkish baths are for.)
Specifically to the poster: I don't think Saudi is an interesting place to teach.
If you want to punish yourself for a failed relationship, go to Saudi.
If you want money but no dignity, go to Saudi.
Otherwise, take time to recover. Find a neat place to go.
Life is short. The world is beautiful.
Why waste it working in some crack institute run by a megalomaniacal dictator who holds your passport and will evict you from the country at will?
That's my opinion.
(No offence intended to any camels who may read this.) |
