Why did you say that? Did you have an experience of disreputable behavior from them too?

Just heard from a source at ASU they're having trouble keeping teachers and are paying them 1100 RO/month, which is over 100 more than last year. They've also had some runners already.

Not a good sign...

I just heard this week that they are in labor court once again. Four times in four months... not a good record. Teachers beware!!

I also received an email from El Shariqa Uni back in September. I was initially surprised to receive a mere offer from any Oman employer as all previous applications had proved unsuccessful as my qual/ exp didn't adhere to their requirements.

I became further dubious about the organisation when on further examination of the email they hadn't BCC'd the other recipients. I thought this was profoundly unprofessional. However my excitement as the thoughts of going to a country where I had been applying for so long dismissed any of these doubts.

It wasn't until coming across this forum that my false hopes were thankfully crushed. Thanks to Dave's ESL Caf, vulnerable and impetuous teachers who encounter such false promises may be warned and ignore such offers.

Thanks fellow posters Smile

Would a direct hire with Al Buraimi College involve less hassle than through a recruiter?

I read about these recruiters, and how they shove people into shoddy hotels and treat them like ...crap. I won't get into everything they complain about, but just wondering if (hired direct) the "1 week in hotel before finding an apartment" will be a bad experience? I think they mentioned in interview that the first week might actually be spent in university housing. Anybody in Al Buraimi know about this? Just like to know what it will be like in first week or two finding a place -and if it's possible to find a 2-bedroom for 120 riyal in Al Buraimi... help!
