This is an apt description. It also applies to a lot of the foreign teachers I have come across in China. |

| Many Chinese seem to be under the impression that everyone who comes from a former British or US colony speaks flawless standard English. Then they bring that person to China and try to pawn him off as a native English speaker. Your case is even more bizarre in that they are looking for you to teach math. I was also wondering why they don't hire a Chinese teacher unless you really have some special expertize. Is this an international school? |

well as far as expertise are concerned ... I had been in UK for 3 years teaching math and was the head of maths department... what you have to say about that than .... ? y not native speaker instead of me..?
the thing is I have this practical experience that native speaker of english vocabolary is worst than non native speakers. they dont even know how to spell word and great many grammar mistakes which I have corrected..
Many of my colluges use to approach me for their correction and I use to wonder that they dont even have a right to be a native speaker...
being a native speaker they can only speak good ... but when it comes to write an application then....
anyways probably its time to take break from thay employer and find someone else |

Quit while you are ahead. Boastful posts about correcting native speakers written in what can only be described as terrible, error ridden English is not the way to convince anyone.
You asked for advice/reasons, and now you are getting it. In theory, to obtain the working papers as a foreign expert, you should be bringing to the school a level of expertise that the native population finds difficult to provide. In terms of teaching, the most obvious here is language, hence why most of us are here teaching language. The reason why people from non-English speaking countries can struggle to get the paperwork sorted is because of the fear that their English is not to a native standard. Obviously this doesn't mean that white, native speakers make great teachers, but it is a legitimate fear.
On the other hand, teaching maths is all well and good but the burden of proof for the school is higher, as in theory they need to show that a native teacher from the general population is unable to do the job, hence the need for a foreign expert.
Now obviously all of this is in theory, which is not always practiced here. Simply lacking a white face, even with a passport from the right country, can be a problem for some people in applying. There are also plenty of non-native speaking or non-white teachers here on the right paperwork and doing an excellent job. We are simply speculating as to what might be the cause of such a long delay.
Just don't teach writing if and when you arrive. |

Isn't this just a post prompted by one non native speaker delivering a response to another non native speaker....

This is becoming more and more common as programs for overseas enrollment are having to tighten their belt and often take a less expensive route of hiring a consultant instead of sending a full time employee over to support a program. Many times they do so through the host school. |

Perhaps there are a way too many expert speakers on. Perhaps, they all should try respecting each other and focus on the topic. |

replying after a while but here is the latest update.
I applied to another institution last month where I had 2 interviews and finally selected by the employer. they asked about all the credentials and after which they told me that they are going to apply for foreign expert work permit. and last month on 26th they applied and told me that it will take 2 weeks to get the foreign expert certifiacte which is 9th of Nov.
I received an email that they have received my foreign expert work permit and now they have applied for invitation letter which will take another week ... Well this is a great news for me ...
I like to know that getting an invitation letter is easy than foreign expert certificate ? I mean should I consider the job and process 100% done or their is still something to be worried about ?
your suggesstions and guidance has helped me a lot in understanding chinese employers .. hence thankyou all for your posts. |

Well as for how long the Invitation letter should take:
My SAFEA Working Permit is dated 26/10/2011; the Confirmation of Invitation letter with the SAFEA chop, which tells the Embassy/Consulate that the inviting school is a Duly Authorised Unit, authorised to invite and employ Foreign Experts and please issue said invitee a Visa, is dated 31/10/2011; and the Invitation Letter from the University is dated 1/11/2011.
Checking back through emails, the paperwork went to the bureaus involved on the 20th, but the guy in the first office responsible to process it was out of the city on holiday until the 24th. So once he was home and working, it didn't take long. |
