One part that is very true, but couldn't you have just said you were going to Dubai?

Normally, you can't be prevented leaving the country, unless you owe debts or commited a crime?

If you are asking about the Colleges of Technology, all hiring is done through recruiters. The colleges decide which candidate to interview and each college dean has the final approval. There are no direct hires for instructors; even Omani teachers are initially hired through the recruiters (unless they were a government scholarship recipient). So typically, if you apply directly to the college, your application is either ignored or you are directed to contact one of the recruiters.

But the recruiting system works backwards also. This means that a college can tell a recruiter to hire an individual who applied directly to the college and the college wants that person. I would suggest that if you have a particular location in mind that it wouldnt hurt to send your CV to that particular location and to a recruiter at the same time. Again, you may not get a response from the college, but its worth a try.

(The English Language Center at the Salalah College of Technology does review the CVs of applicants that are sent directly to them.)

Thanks for the info! I would like to hear from other teachers who are teaching uni in Oman with TATI. I'm thinking of applying there for the fall.

Thanks,
RB

"They will put you in in a cockroach hotel or apt and if you complain they will somehow try to blame you." Confused

You brought those cockroaches with you!

That is actually true.

But that is what you get when you put sub-continentals who should know their place into middle management positions....

Urbanversion,

Sorry old chap, I'm not some PC loony, far from it, but your reference to "sub continentals who should know their place" sounds more than a tad racist.

The vast majority of the "sub continentals" I've met during my time in Oman and the ME, are decent folk who do their best, often under very trying circumstances, and for much less dough than their Western brethren, to do the best they can.

As far as I'm concerned, the main problem with Oman in particular, and the ME in general, doesn't relate to the management of "sub continentals" but rather to a local culture which was surviving and doing rather well at what it did, and then suddenly found itself thrust into the "Oil Age" overnight.

The Arabian Peninsula is what it is, but it's not India's fault, as you seem to be implying.
