And you agree with the politics of ME/Gulf countries? Your level of personal freedom in China will generally be quite high, better than the Big Desert. But I don't know that going through your university is the best idea. I'm going to send you a PM.
Smile lol I got closer friends in the ME and like the warm climate... Maybe I have a thing for goats and camels lol

I hope so, because that's about the only locals you're going to be dating.

Yea, I'll have to agree with Zero on this one. I think you're viewing the Middle East through rose-colored glasses and should do more research about the quality of life there. People generally only work there for one reason: the money. Most people don't look to go there and it isn't because of warm weather (people generally like warm, sunny places). But the point is that you might want to read up more on life in the Middle East before deciding that it's more fantastic than say, China. Not to say that you should never go there, but that you should be in the know and pick your poison so that there are no surprises that would make for a bad experience in the future.

You can however, if you do decide to travel abroad, get your CELTA cheaper than at home. In BKK for example, IH offers the CELTA with a room/board option for about US$2100.

.

Hello all, I'm new to the forums, though I've been reading them for a while and wanted to finally get involved. I've got limited experience compared to some on here, but I just got back from Vietnam and had a pretty good experience there. ILA in Saigon offers the CELTA, and last I heard was going for about $1700. I didn't take it there, but I know others that did and were very satisfied. Additionally, provided you do well, there's a good chance that you'll be offered a position with ILA afterwards. ILA is definitely a mill, however I had a good experience there and it also has a pretty good support network for the beginning teacher. Once you get that under your belt, you can move on to bigger and better things.

Some other selling points for Vietnam are that it has a relatively cheap cost of living, the pay is decent (not on the level of Korea or the Middle East), and the weather is nice and warm, provided you're in the south.

Anyway, that's my two cents, good luck with whatever you decide to choose!

Did that $1700 in Vietnam include your room and food for a month as well?
The $2100 package in BKK does.

Let's see if I did this quoting correctly...

That's a good point, it doesn't include your room and food, that would be something extra, however you could get something comparable by getting into a guesthouse and eating frugally.
