"How's the care in Guatemala?"
As luck would have it, I've only had routine medical and dental visits here and have been satisfied. From what I've heard from friends, I could go to Antigua or Guatemala City for more serious needs and be in good hands.
Want any info on Senegal? |

Dear Dedicated,
"When estimating the cost overseas for any kind of surgery, don't forget you cannot travel by air for 6 weeks after an operation. That means a hefty hotel bill."
That's why your friends/relatives will be staying with you, the EFL teacher living and working there, for those six weeks.
Regards,
John |

| Bangkok, Thailand has excellent private hospital facilities and any operation post op would not be an expensive stay. However getting there from America might be the main expense. |

Is that true about not being able to fly for 6 weeks after an operation? I've never heard that before. Seems the time would be, at least somewhat, related to the type of surgery, the age and health of the patient, and the length of the flight.

I have never heard of the six weeks either. I worked for an international medical assistance company that performed evacuations and repatriations from overseas. Even elderly patients with hip fractures could come home 3-5 days post op in Business Class. I do remember that pneumothorax patients had to wait a while but even that was not six weeks. Unless your extremely ill or your 02 saturation is under 90% you can usually fly, airlines even offer wheel chair assistance. As was stated, it can vary depending on the situation.
Great advice from the article, my medical director would always explain to us how there is an entirely different definition of fit to travel when it is being done in a pressurized environment at 40,000 feet. |

It depends on the operation. I had lasek and was good to go. Double eyelid, nose jobs, etc, you could fly shortly after that. Plenty of people head to Thailand for a couple weeks then fly home. |
