They contain some excellent advice and descriptions of what it can be like in Russia if things go wrong! To most newbies,my frank advice is that Russia is not the ideal place to start out and you can understand why from what you can read on this forum??But if you are brave enough then they are probably right that USING (and note that word because you will be used!!) a Mac School like BKC is the easiest way in because they supply the BASICS(note that word too!!)
Personally I took the independent route, which cost me a great deal more and even then I still had hassle with many things, despite having close Russian friends without whose moral and often practical help and support I would probably have thrown in the towel and left the country before I did!Maybe some of us have a closet masochist tendency and are lured by the thought of the unknown and the risky which a place like Russia often brings to mind, not to mention of course the cultural, musical and historical interests etc. which are all there too for you to experience?
Despite all the negatives which myself and other old-timers have been posting on this forum for over a decade, the fact remains that there seemingly always new people who want to experience for themselves what living and working in Russia is like so all I will say is that if I am asked if I learned from it the answer would still be yes, despite the drawbacks-and be sure there are many!
Perhaps the best advice I can give to conclude with for now this with for now is to forget what you have learned to take for granted elsewhere and don't try to compare conditions in Russia with them or you will start out with a negative mind-set which will probably only get worse the longer you stay there......Russia is not like anywhere else and for so many reasons! |
