I received a contract and Visa block number today for AL khaleej Tabuk... I also read alot of negativity but i rather go there and be employed than be on the dole here....These recruitment agencies in the UK are just as bad if you ask me. they never return your call...always in a damn meeting... nothing good comes out of it anyway , they dip into your salary and its not tax free salary.... I dont care for social life really...It all depends how strong you are and what you have handled in the past... anyway once i get there i will give my point of view as a female InshaALLAH.

Hi Naturegirl,

I'm applying for teaching posts in the Middle East for the first time and don't really know what to expect from the process, only have experience in the Far East.

Was the hour long interview with the Univ. of Tabuk? If so, would you mind giving an indication of the kinds of questions they asked?

Regards,

Hmmmm..... I'm a complete outsider but I would trust the wors of thsoe who know more abotu Saudi arabia moer than not the interviewer. Surprised

Does the interviewer live in Saudi Arabia? Confused

How can you make them keep their promisese? Confused

I was interviewed by a British guy there- said he lived in KSA himself. I think the place sounds like it's worth a shot. Love to hear from others in Tabuk or getting ready to go. They seem to be recruiting quite a few people for the coming academic year.

I just did the same. What is a good salary for Saudi Arabia? I am curious. When I worked out all the benefits, salary, and 10 months of work, it came out to over 5000 p/m tax free. Does anyone have suggestions with regards to housing?

5000 SR a month is not the going rate for a "Western" teacher

Yes. I should have indicated $5000. Is this a good rate? To be honest, I think I am quite happy with it, but I am just curious. I am a Westerner.

In order to make jobs and offers comparable, the norm here is to give salary as one number and list the benefits.

It is impossible to create comparable benefit numbers because of the variables in housing and ticket costs for instance - everyone is flying in from different locations. For instance... how would one compare dollar-wise between a free furnished flat in the embassy compound in Riyadh versus an XXXXX housing allowance in a smaller Saudi city or town.

So... what is your actual salary only offer? Does it offer a free flat or a housing allowance? Furnished or an allowance? Etc...

I have read several threads on The University of Tabuk. None of them explain in detail or even generally what its like to teach here. Anyone ever work here and can share their experience without arguing about women attending or how much they hate the area? any Facts?

How about the University there? Anyone? No Tangents please. If you can't truly answer, then don't. I'm fine with it.

I am wondering the same thing. The director interviewed me. Apparently they are moving gradually replacing the staff with direct hires v. subcontracted hires. That sounds promising.

gradually I believe. Do the direct hires do the same job as the subcontracted staff?
