Hmm. Where do you teach?
And based on our analogies, is Harbin like this? Any information I manage to find about it is basically summed up in three words. "Cold" and "ice festival." |

So Donghua University emailed me back after I turned down their offer of 3600 RMB per month.
The new conditions are 5000 RMB per month, plus 3000 RMB if I choose to take off campus housing. 16 teaching periods per week.
Is this a decent amount of money to live in Shanghai? The city is a huge draw, but I still have the offer from Deqiang School in Harbin for the same salary.
I appreciate any advice. |

I have been made the same offer by Donghua University. The salary increase as well. I just heard from them today, and I am trying to decide what to do. The e-mail also said that the salary increase was for me only... I guess this shows the Chinese cannot be trusted.
The salary is not really that important to me but the prestige of the university is. I am moving there with my husband and son, so my husband will also be working and he will make at least as much as I make if not more. So we will be living off two incomes.
I guess I am just not sure what to make of the offer. If I say I accept the offer, and have not signed a contract, is it easy to back out. I want to work at Jiaotong as my first choice (even for less pay).
Is the e-mail offer indication of a job offer? The reply I got from Jiaotong was similar to the one from Donghua.
How do you figure out this crazy job getting process thorugh e-mail. |

An email offer is as good a the Univeristy that is behind it. Both of the Universities you mentioned are key schools and will stand behind their word. Think carefully before accepting an offer, if you accept, keep your word too...
