Been living and working in Monterrey for the past 10 months. Been having a blast, and I haven't had any security issues. Violence has calmed in the past year, but you still need to take basic precautions like anywhere else.

Hi I was thinking about moving to Monterrey fairly soon and have just been reading this forum. The last post is now well over a year ago. Does anyone have anything new to report or is the situation still the same?

Thanks in advance

Personally, I live in Zacatecas (state) and we get one of the Monterrey TV channels here, and based on what I have seen on the news I wouldn´t move there. Durango either. Zacatecas (city) might be a place for you to look into, it´s not too big, pretty clean and fairly inexpensive. If you haven´t already, you might want to take a look at Puebla, safe, clean and from parts of the city you have a great, breathtaking view of the volcano. I know you said you weren´t interested in DF, but for culture and things to do it is number 1. Also, if you have an interest in seeing what Mexico is really like, find a small town somewhere to live for 6 months, and teach online Extremely low cost of living, and very, very different from living in even a moderate sized city.
