You want variety? The USA has IT! Regional??? Come on, try New England typical cuisine one day then head down to New Orleans for some real Cajun/Southern cooking. International food from all over the world.
Cost? I can ALWAYS find something great for $10 for a meal, often less, sometimes a lil more, but then again, in the US I am earning first world wages and not 3rd world. |
I'd like to agree. Generally, the variety that I can find in the US is amazing. My favorite restaurant in NYC is a Druze place; my favorite places near my birthplace are a pescatarian restaurant, a pizza place, and a sandwich shop (formerly there was an amazing BBQ place, but it burned down), but within a 20 minute drive my my mother's house I also had many other reasonably priced options including Argentine, Tibetan, Japanese, Chinese, Korean BBQ (The only non-sucky Korean food), and several others. And I hail from the exurbs; the nearest city of any size�Boston�is two hours away.
However I have never had great Turkish food in the United States. I've been three Turkish restaurants in the US. One was a somewhat expensive upscale place in DC, yet the only thing they did right was the bread. The rest was fine, but mediocre. One was a place in NYC that was absolutely awful. The third was a different place in NYC which was simply mediocre.
Of course while Turkish food is great, it's hard to find good non-Turkish food in Turkey. Dedicated is right that there's a great variety from region-to-region, but there's really only three kinds of restaurant in most of Turkey: 1. pizza, 2. kebap, 3. American-style fast food. In more touristy parts you can find fish, Chinese, and upscale places but they tend to be expensive. The variety you find is mostly in the kind of kebap place.

The most consistently delicious food I've ever had has, without a doubt, been in Singapore. Even the meals at nondescript street stalls were amazing  . |

After traveling around Asia I think the food where I am now in China is a bit disappointing, I always like to eat the street food and it just doesn't compare to places like Thailand and Indonesia etc.
Roti Canai for breakfast in Malaysia, delicious!! |
