No normality or standard indeed ... more exactly between 2500 to +25000 per month

(Koreans are freeky...)

Shaved Celery Salad With Beets and Pecorino Romano Cheese
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
scant 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 bunch celery, cleaned, leaves and small stems removed
1 cup coarsely grated pecorino romano cheese
1/2 cup whole flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
1/2 cup fennel tops (feathery parts only)
1 medium beet, boiled, cooled, and peeled
8 shaved pieces pecorino romano cheese (for garnish)

Quote:
Peking in Beijing and Fudan in Shanghai pay 3,500 for 18 hours.

2nd tier like Shenzhen Poly and others pay 6,000 for 18 hours.

Normals pay 4,000 for 18 hours.

Degree level also has a bearing, as does location and university ranking.

The more famous the uni or desirable the location, the lower the pay.

The above information is a good rule of thumb.

SalEries in Beijing at Unis are simply low. The city is saturated with people wanting to teach. Some training centers such as Wall St. supposedly pay well but the word is there are a lot of unhappy campers (teachers) on hand. Part time jobs are available, but rates, again, are being forced down by the number of hungry seekers. Dell, which you can find on their homepage starts about 4,000 which is appears typical.

As well, the usual bullsheet abounds. For example, a friend introduced me to a director of a well-known school. The original teacher bolted for some reason so on a Friday we met, agreed to a rate and I started the class the next day. After four weeks, word comes to me through the friend that we westerners are not flexible (and this after the director makes it a point to tell me about his eight years abroad working mostly with Americans), meaning why don't I be flexible and let them reduce my salEry. I sent back word, I'll return the book and they can find a new teacher. I hope they find the typical piece-of-shit, non-teacher who abounds in Beijing. (Thanks for a place to rant.)

A final note; visa requirements are getting stricter. People with F-class Multi-entry visas are supposed to leave the country every 30 days I heard yesterday. That might apply only to Americans though. F-class with double entry, at least once for the six months.

As for myself, I'm ready to leave Beijing and am looking elsewhere. The people are generally nice, but it's losing it's appeal. I'll take any suggestions!

Could someone do this poll again and specify salary ranges? This survey fails to discriminate between people's perceptions and reality. A range would be more helpful. What is "average" to someone might be "high" to another. Dig?
