OP, your current school may well be open to giving you a one-term contract at the end of your current contract, even if they are ambivalent or worse with your teaching. If they let you go at the end of your contract, then they will have to stay in the cycle of searching during the off-term for teachers in a smaller pool. And renewing your papers would be a lot easier than hiring a new teacher for one term, which is why it's less likely that another school would offer you for one term. Even if you and your school don't see eye to eye, it may be the best solution for both parties. You could then look in April for a September start at another school, and leave under good terms.

Yes, I was thinking that too. Assuming I weather the current swirl, which I'm sure I'll will, I was hoping that they'll be receptive to that. I guess I'll see when I get into next semester. I'm sure something will work out.

I still find it hard to believe that in this whole delta one couldn't find a job within 90 minutes of GZ, the place I need to stick close to.
