no paul, nova has many of these rules because they are in league with satan and each of these rules means that they squeeze a few extra yen from the teachers they rip off on a regular basis. Dont mean to flame as such but NOVA use this type of sh*te talk in order to justify their substandard (in some cases illegal) working conditions.

The rules may be unethical and borderline illegal (schools have not been able to get away with anything illegal as yet without getting caught)but they still have no trouble getting people to sign up for interviews every season, despite such things being written about in their contract and posted on the Internet.
Drug policy: NOVA teacher gets arrested in 1995 for possessing marijuana. Drug testing introduced.
Fraternisation policy: Underage high schools caught at late night party with teachers and found out by the girls' parents. Latest urban myth is that a foreign teacher was caught receiving oral sex from a student in an empty classroom. When I was there I used to hear about sexual dalliances on premises after hours by teachers and that was way back in 1987.
Teachers turn up to work drunk, hungover, some fly in directly from the airport after a spell in Thailand.
NOVA teachers use their students to find dates or get laid rather than etach them English.
Hard as it may be, it is not illegal to make teachers work 6 classes in a row. Just because its hard work for a newbie who has never worked a full time job before doesnt make it immoral or illegal, as the office staff work twice the hours teachers do. Slave labour it may be but no one twisted your arm and its in the contract what the work hours are. No one also makes you buy their insurance, rent their apartments (they are not obliged to provide accomodation by the way) or buy their cellphones. |
