Thank you all for your replies, except the insulting one. The problem seems to be they are always "out for lunch". I mean you can e-mail them call them. Nothing, They are on holiday.

Maybe I'm odd but it seems a little strange to me.

You've been on this forum for nine years with a post count of thirteen.

Your most recent contribution suggests, to me, no buts - you are odd.

Apparently a lot of bored people there.

What is with the hostility there? Nothing to do there but abuse people?

It was a remains a simple question. I liked the allusion to 1984 (Oceania and Eurasia) the problem remains that they simply don't answer in any way.

please tell us more. half of us here hate china and can't wait to leave,
and half of us exist merely to serve our new overlords. the other half
can't find work in real countries, so have become pathetic, bitter, shells
of our former selves.

you'll get responses from the nazis-are-coming-crackdown-on-foreigners
conspiracy crackpots.
you'll get the opposite from the streets of china are paved with gold
(and poop) wanna-be sino-lackeys.
there will be comments from the bitter ones who will attack you or
the school, depending on which makes them feel better about their
own sad situation.
and don't forget the trolls - some of the more entertaining postings.

what be your home country?
what country are you currently in?
if not home, are you on a tourist visa or other?
what country was given on your invitation letter?
if incorrect, what instructions were they given?

"...the streets of china are paved with ... wanna-be sino-lackeys."

I resemble that remark.

I usually do whatever business I need in person, and I don't leave until I am served. I don't play these phone tag games. That went out when I had to deal with answering machines back in the 80's.

What do you want and from whom do you want it and when?

The original question was "How do I cancel a letter of invitation?"

You have been advised to tell the school "no thanks." That's all there is to it. You seem to be needing or wanting answers to other questions. Here's a question for you: when does your contract start? If it doesn't start until September, don't expect much in the way of communication from the school until the end of July. The letter of invitation won't be issued until late July or August because there is a small window of entry for the Z visa. If you are granted a Z visa in June, it will expire before you arrive in China to begin teaching in September.

This could be the problem.
