Fuzhou Fujian?? In Minsheng University? (or whatever of a similar name?)

Yeah, your offer is pretty good! Not the best, but certainly about what you'd expect coming in here now... unless you're loaded with quals and experience (or even just the experience).

If it's the same place I'm thinking of, (and the same recruiter), I thought about it, but chose not to, but it was something I was looking at last year (and had a contract for).

It's not the best city in China for expats, but it's close enough to a few to be able to save, and travel to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, etc pretty easily (and regularly, if you want!)

If I'm not mistaken its not a university job its at IEN Institute attached to Minjiang University. Here are some brief facts

You will be teaching kids that failed their Uni entrance exam - low level mostly. They are not motivated because systematic cheating occurs at the school, very few fail, and Chinese teachers hand out copies of the exam the week before.

You won't pay tax because your contract will list two employers both contributing to your salary - Shanghai Yucui is the employing company and their taxation methods may or may not be legal.

Classes are 90 mins - 2 x 45 minute blocks.

Every native speaking teacher left the institute at the end of the semester.

Fuzhou is a cultural desert, stinking hot in summer, dry and cold in winter and plagued by ceaseless rain in spring. Take mosquito repellent!

The institute is a long way from the city centre and the last stretch of road to and fro turns to a bog with the rain. Don't live near the campus - you will be bored stiff!

You will be able to save most of your money depending upon your lifestyle.

There are other posts on here regarding this institute so do some research.

Say hello to sammi for me and don't believe much that comes out of her mouth (see other post by me on the subject of 'cancelled residence permit')

Also, you will be going to HK for a visa run at least once, twice if Sammi screws up.

I have nothing to say abt the program director as you will make up your own mind soon enough but suffice to say that he took me a brothel on my first night in Fuzhou and offered to pay. Welcome to IEN!

Good luck.
