Baa Baa - are you coming alone ? I am only asking as single female teachers had a tough time finding a landlord willing to rent out to a single female.
Also, if you will be posted at one of the two women's colleges ( areas are Sharifiyah and Salama) and not at the main women's campus in south Jeddah, the areas Freesoul mentioned will be quite a commute. |

This is an old thread; Baa Baa arrived in the Kingdom last year.
I have quite a few single female friends who teach at KAU and had no issues securing flats. If it helps, the majority of them live in Al Naseem district. It's very close to the main campus and less than 20 minutes away from Sharafiyah by taxi or private car. However, Salamah campus is further away. Anyway, ask your teaching colleagues for advice on where to rent. |

You gotta love Baa Baa, but hey, she also wrote about breathing into a paper bag, so...
Not one of my single friends mentioned problems with renting on their own. But my point is that it's easier to find housing in districts with a sizable number of expat (teacher) residents. Landlords in these areas will be more open to renting to single women. Additionally, gender may not always be the issue; some private landlords will only rent to specific nationalities. Such discrimination isn't uncommon. |
