I don't smoke but I am on the hunt for the cheapest foulest smelling cigars just to smoke after my meal or in the elevator.

Obviously Chou you have never been in a cinema in a Western country. Young children are not allowed in any film with an R or above rating (even when with an adult). I haven't been in a movie theater in the US in a while, but I can't recall ever hearing a pocket phone ring during a film.
One poster asked me which film I had attended- it was one of the "Saw" series. During the goriest parts, some people were literally on their knees laughing so hard. Even my Chinese girlfriend thought their actions were completely out of place.
Chinese cinemas are actually no different than any restaurants in China, especially places like KFC. Children run around screaming with no parental supervision. Each adult tries to outshout those at the adjacent table. People scream on their telephones. Common courtesy simply doesn't exist in China. It's so different in Taiwan and Hong Kong where people can be polite for the most part. There is no disgusting spitting. Men wear shirts and don't urinate on the streets. It's no wonder that the people living in Hong Kong and Taiwan are insulted when compared to their "brothers" living in mainland China.

in that case, i'd recommend buying one of those 2-meter tall
bamboo water pipes and a pack of clove cigarettes.

forget the elevator, take it to the cinema!

Welcome! We can be boorish and offended together and then bitch about it over dinner afterward. A fun time for all!

Aside: I am growing less fond of InCity mall. I was asking for sweetener at the Starbucks a couple weeks ago and (even after my Chinese friend asked for it in Chinese) the gal behind the counter kept saying "Mei you!" (my first learned Chinese words, by the way). So I said "Bu Yao!" ( I was ordering an iced tea.) Then some guy comes up and shows me they do indeed have sweetener (but not a pink or blue or yellow packet) - - he must work there, or really hangs out a lot there. By that time I was so frustrated so I just left. But at least they make smokers go outside there, so that's a plus!

The movie theater there always seems so warm (or hot!) to me. Luckily I have a movie theater and, in October, a Starbucks, both within easy walking distance from my home. I'm set for now AND I'll bring my own sweetener from now on! Hao, hao, hen hao!

Kev, I also am getting tired of Incity but for a few different reasons.

It's dirty. I often see roaches in the restaurants. While it doesn't seem to offend the Chinese - I am disgusted by it.

I stopped eating in the Salzaria "Italian" type restaurant on the 4th floor for this reason. For dinner me and the girlfriend eat at a Tappanacki place in the basement, near the Walmart entrance. Same thing - roaches on the wall and they dont seem to care about smoking in there.

Seems sanitation and insect prevention seem to be lacking at Incity.

And of course the Walmart is on the bottom of the list for shopping in Suzhou.

Eh the theaters i've been to have been ok. The Chinese weren't rude or screaming or talking on their phones.

One interesting story that surprised me was watching one of your typical "China vs Japan" tv movies with my friend and her parents (all Chinese) and every time one of the Japanese killed one of the Chinese, her father cheered. I thought that was a little backwards but quite hilarious. Reminds me of when I cheer for the "villains" in some movies IE Star Wars.

Anyway that movie ended horribly with the Chinese people cornered and suddenly a lightning storm appeared and lightning struck all the Japanese people.........and that's why I don't watch the retardation that is Chinese tv.
