I was told they would inform me this weekend about the timetable for the letter and also for an arrival estimate in China.

Surprise, I've heard nothing.

It is my 5th week too waiting for the proper introduction letter after signing for a specific branch for a training center in Xuzhou, Jiangsu. However, you are luckier than me, I found out last week that they didn't even apply until just last week on Oct 26th.... It's alright with me and probably you too as I think arriving on the correct Z visa is worth it.

Plus, for me getting my feet wet before a real proper teaching job for next School year is preferable.

Note, I had been interviewing for a university that wanted me to come on a F Visa, they sent me a F Visa Invitation Letter after 2 days of interviewing...

I'm also waiting, and have been since October 8th. I've heard the reason for the delay is because of the leadership change in the country. I guess it's a very sensitive time, and all paperwork having to do with the government slows down to a trickle.

no. that's bs. nothing sensative about hiring teachers. after the
handover, they'll just find another excuse.

time to move on. if you want a public school job for the spring
semester (starting ~25 feb), you need to begin applying yesterday.

Actually it doesn't have to be BS - some of my clients coming in from the UK and US have also found it a little more tricky to obtain visas - the kind of stricter enforcing of rules, where all requirements surrounding L visa application - fully booked itineraries and letters of invitation for independent travelers - must be met - similar to the 2008 Olympics situation. It's been pretty easy to get around them using Visa agencies - and these kind of difficulties are usually temporary.
Maybe the red tape surrounding FT hire is also being stepped up so that authorities, at the present time, require all stipulations to be met - which could account for delays as schools wait for the leadership change to be completed and things to return back to how they were.

Waiting 5 weeks may not be too long. I was "hired" in the second week in May for September 1st. I got my invitation letter the second week in July, 8 weeks later.

It all depends on when your job starts.

My invitation letter has finally come through, I just hope the job is all it promises to be. Reading some of the comments on here though I remain skeptical.

The next obstacle is the embassy, any nonsense about this health form they can do one. It would just be ridiculous!
