I stand by my original evaluation, past his best -by date. His frankness is energising, but there's a wide gulf between just having an outspoken opinion and having an informed opinion. As Shaman notes, his opinions were formed some years ago and haven't kept up with a game that has changed. (I hope I'm not putting words in your mouth, Shaman) Agreed, he often loses the thread in his pompous-self belief, and that I have a problem with.

He definitely does have entertainment value though. When is the last time anyone tuned to in to hear a careful analysis full of "perhaps it would be better if..."? The sad thing is that he is little known outside of Canada. With his bluster and bombast, one would think that the Americans would have embraced him as one of their own.

No way. Most don't understand the game enough and wouldn't know what he is talking about. Have you ever seen an ESPN telecast? Rolling Eyes Talk about dumbed down.

Is it ESPN that puts a little red laser on the puck so that the TV viewers can follow it? Laughing

Dear latefordinner,
I've always known all Canadians were completely fair-minded; thank you for eschewing insulting generalizations.
Regards,
John

Actually Don is quite popular in the US at least in border areas that get HNIC. He is a hero in Boston where he was the Coach..

I don't think the game has passed him by although he does go too far now and then as with his "French guys" comments...But then again I am over 3 years in Asia so I could be wrong.

True lagerlout. I'd say Don is as loved in Boston as he is anywhere in Canada. His favourite player is and always will be #4 Bobby Orr.

I like the little red lazor. The puck is so tiny. I have poor vision.

Don was wearing a very peculiar get-up last nite--or was it the nite before?
It looked like a white silk blazer patterned with red carnations. Probably the colours of a team, I suppose.

The man is truly obnoxious, and he says obnoxious things, for which he deserves to remain on TV. He is the last of a generation of great populists that included the evil Rene Levesque. There are too many timid, PC, mealy-mouthed, cautious, conformist and character-free squares on TV already. I really don't understand what is happening to this nation.

Just my tuppenceworth. Back to the astronomy text.

I saw that suit too, khmerit. Someone out there is missing an awfully gaudy set of curtains.
