Well, if as VietCanada said, people were actually welcome to express at least an occasional opinion (unless stating completely crazy or unclear things such as "Pinker is a lizard monster that devours a hundred lemmings for breakfast, lunch and dinner" - "Wot, 100 or 300 a day?! Eh eh eh?!?!"), and those opinions could be processed without so much instant per(s)nicketiness, easy snideness and outright personal hostility all the time, then the forums could be a much more pleasant and conducive place, John. And until more people than just me are possibly willing to try to get over themselves, I fear the miffedness will generally continue (you think you're the only person with grievances? Man up, for goodness' sake!).

I'm not sure how much VC will appreciate this comment. Or go along with the notion of rodents getting over themselves...

VietCanada may not appreciate my comments, but he certainly didn't seem to appreciate some of yours, Sasha. And I don't think I've ever seen you offer any sort of apology to anybody, ever. Maybe you should try it sometime? Just a thought, or rather, a feeling.

For what should I offer this extraordinary apology?

Well, if you don't think you ever need to offer any, then fine, don't. I'm not your memory or your conscience (and I see little point or reward in doing that work for you).

I see no need. If you can't offer any idea as to what I have done to cause such grave offence, then don't expect to guilt me into any apology.

My conscience is clear, my fluffy friend.

"My conscience is clear". I'm trying to remember what film(s) that's been in. Probably one involving some reprehensible fur-trapper who makes a living clubbing baby lemmings to death.

Hey! I give them a meaningful death, and put their fur to good use. Without me the stupid fools would fling themselves off the nearest cliff. Pointlessly...

I feel that faux-Lovecraftian allusion coming on again, but this is not the thread for it! <Flash of lightning illuminates tentacle coming up over clifftop and reaching for packed quivering lemming cage>

Damnation, Fluffy! You have made me DL some Lovecraft, so as to finally read at least one page of his.

Hope it is as good as Fifty Shades of Fluff...

Cheers for this, Fluffy. Will view it all once I remember where I left my secret stash of vodka.
