So, the classroom teaching methods are THE TOPIC now...either way students progress...in my opinion, it's a matter of the capabilities of individual students which way is better to study English or any other language.
However, I'd say that one single arguement puzzles me till now and that is how we learn our "mother tongue". If we can learn our first languages within such a short time from such little babies so fast and without any "HELP" of other languages, dictionaries...why couldn't we learn other languages the exact same way, when we are smarter, more mature Confused

EF English First has got its "standard" system/methodology with the one language use in their classrooms, although standards are "distandardized" at EF centers easily..u never know Smile
At the last EF center i worked at, the "CM/Chinese employer trained" teachers assistants besides their "007 assignments" often "reached out" to students. Wink
We had those teachers assistants in young learner classroom with students at low levels.

For the forums interested ones and eager to discuss broad range of issues I have begun a thread "Lets troll or discuss"

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=44356

I hope that thread will provide us all with a discussion without limits ...though restricted to work in China.

Not available anymore Crying or Very sad ...but I still hope this one will stay within its topic and if there's nothing else to say..don't say it on here Smile
I'd like that 'UNIVERSAL" thread with a broad unlimited discussion on work in China...maybe I shouldn't've used that word "troll" there, should I?

Peace to all
and
cheers and beers to all FTs in China Very Happy

I don't know. DO we have to stay on topic? There was nothing NEW here, in the first place. The OP just didn't know where to look for EF bashing (or praising, there's some of that here as well, if only from me, hahaha).
Let's sum it up and move on, then:

A) Be ready for anything in a first-time DoS position.
B) Don't work at EF.
C) Go ahead and work at EF - it's a good place to get going.
D) I'm completely amoral as a teacher, a DoS, and possibly as a human being, and englishgibson knows exactly how and why, and he's prepared to discuss it at great length.
E)I'm a crap teacher and vikdk knows exasctly how and why and HE'S prepared to discuss THAT at great length.

OK? Close the thread? Good one. Now I guess I'll start one for vikdk and me to discuss pedagogy.

Let's sum it up and move on, then:
EF English First is an educational organization buying (corrupting) its way to the top worldwide.
EF English First is a franchise with established standards that are "re-established" according to cultures and employers'/franchisees "needs" around the world.
EF English First is a franchise with its organizational structure that is for "advertising" only.
EF Directors of Studies at individual centers are at mercy of their "hungry" and dishonest employers/franchisees.
EF Head Offices are protective of their franchisees due to "the top" plans
EF Head Quarters in Switzerland are virtually inaccessable if you are in trouble.
Working for EF often brings in non EF requests of all unreasonable sorts such as teaching 50 kids in one class the EF way, teaching far away from your EF center (traveling time often unscheduled), teaching for EF without being registered with EF, teaching for EF with requests for teaching for the owners EF "clones" etc
Having a judgment of one dishonest EF franchisee/employer passed on you may result in your complete shutout of the whole franchise ending your "opportunities" you might've worked for for one, two, three or more years with them.
Objecting to the EF practices might create numerous troubles for you later such as getting a work visa in the same city/country (even if with other employers), threats against you etc

It's surely your choice to join or not join the corruptly monopolized McEF organization with all sorts of advertisings on their Mcburgers that at times have "rice" in it in China Wink

OK! Close! Good one Smile
Now, I guess I'll start monopolizing my Mcchicken on my balcony's BBQ..god, i hope it hasn't burnt yet Confused

Peace to the founder of EF
and
cheers and beers to the fine ways of monopolizing ESL education worldwide Very Happy
