| There are always those teachers who just have to be identified as having the best gig, and their association is so strong with this position that they cannot see how anyone would not like it .. . unless . .. that person is well . . . unaccountable. |

I wouldn't know if it's "the best gig" but, currently, it's the best gig for me. Trust me when I tell you that anyone working here knows full well the shortcomings of the position.
As I said earlier, it's not for everyone. It can be a hard place to work, mostly due to administrative issues. People talk about discipline issues too, but, for myself, I don't have nearly as much hassle as some. I think it has a huge amount to do with your personality and experience and so, again, that's going to vary from teacher to teacher.
If you have a rough time with the administration AND with the discipline, it can be a very tough ride, despite the sweet sound of cash dripping into your bank account. That's why I said it separates the men from the boys because you have to learn to adjust to this and that often takes new teachers quite a lot of emotional energy.
But, for me, being able to successfully adapt is the sign of an experienced teacher. At Aramco, this enables you to teach when there is a great deal involved in the job that mitigates against successful teaching.
So, no, not for everyone, and I would disagree with anyone who said categorically that it was "the best gig" in Saudi. |
