| Yeah, I saw that Civil War series by Ken Burns as well. I'm from Tennessee and one of the primary historians used by Burns was Shelby Foote. Notorious drunk, but loved his subject. |
So did Nathan "Get there the fustest with the mostest" Bedford Forrest...later credited for starting the Ku Klux Klan.
Tennesseans have come a long way, hey?

| Camel is right--on a forum, write to communicate, not to dazzle, impress and mystify us. You're not makin' it. |
Bah. To presume I'm writing to mystify, impress or dazzle is your own proclivity. I don't pretend to know or prescribe to others "how it's done" on a forum as I post to many. What interests me, I respond to. What does not, doesn't matter. I was interested in discussing the cultural politics of university of administrations and still am. |

Not really, unfortunately. Approaching Nashville from the south, along I-75, about 10 years ago, a statue of Forrest, sword drawn, riding a horse reared up on two legs was erected, surrounded by 13 Confederate flags. It stands still.
I believe it's Pulaski, TN that still makes claim to the first KKK meetings. I've met a great-great grand-daughter of Forrest and she denies her ancestry is solely responsible. |

LCK reminds me of another poster who used to post here last year, perhaps his username was "Shakespeare"?
This is an ESL forum, not an academic forum for those doing PhDs in English. Because you must admit, even a non-academic forum for those doing PhDs in English would display simple language. |
"You must admit..." No. I don't. I would say your particular sense of "simple" is not mine. Nor am I writing a thesis. What is actual is education forums are notorious for cultures of hyper-correctness. What is actual is that embarrassing errors in usage and spelling are mocked as indicators of proficiency while more complex and precise descriptions are criticized for not conforming to a norm. |
